Hazel Mackin Community Library

Events for the week of May 7th, 2018

Graduation is fast approaching so I want to congratulate the class of 2018 as they end the chapter of high school and begin the next chapter of the journey called LIFE. Ben Franklin once said that there are two things in life that are certain: death and taxes.  But a wise man recently told me the third thing is change.  Graduation brings about so much change in the life of a student with family and friends.  This year, graduation will be moving us toward an empty nest…not a change I’m ready for, but it will happen because CHANGE is inevitable!

Can you believe Good Neighbor Days will be here in just a few short weeks?  We will be doing the annual dessert fundraiser at the Community Dinner on June 1st.  We would love to have donated desserts to the library by mid-afternoon that day.  We are also looking for volunteers to walk with the Library in the parade for Sunday, June 3rd.  Please stop by the library to sign up for this event.  All ages can participate and we recommend strollers and wagons for little ones.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and we are excited to have a Mother’s Day Tea on May 12th, 10:30-12 pm.  Our craft that day will be making tea cup bouquets.  We will have cupcakes to decorate as well.  Children ages five and up can be registered with their mom or grandma for this program.  Please call the library, 715-749-3849 to register as space is limited.  We look forward to celebrating motherhood together!

Story Time: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:30-11:15 am.  Story times include calendar fun, songs, rhymes, stories and crafts.  The theme for May 7th and 9th will be Beach.  There will be no story time the rest of May as Brittany is preparing everything for our Summer Reading Program.

Tween Book Club: Thursday, May 10th, during the WIN hour Brittany will be at the middle school to discuss the book, The Best Mistake Mystery.  If you want to be involved in this program, please contact Mrs. Fern at the school.  We will also have this book club on Saturday, May 10th, 10-11 am at the library.

Job Center: Wednesday, May 16th, 10-12 pm.  Stop by the library to get valuable information on job research, resume and cover letters.

Teen Book Club: Thursday May 17th, 9th hour at the high school.  The group will be discussing Fate of Flames by Sarah Raughley.

A Novel Idea Book Club: Monday, May 21st, 6 pm at Bobtown Brewhouse.  Please note date change because the last Monday of the month lands on Memorial Day.  This month we will be discussing The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.  Next month will be The Skeleton Man by Tony Hillerman.

The Library will be closed for the Memorial Day weekend on May 26-May 28th.

Stitchers: this group meets every Wednesday, 12:30-3 pm.

Crocheters and Knitters:  This group meets every Thursday, 2:15-5 pm. If you can’t come during this time, feel free to bring in your projects and grab a friend to come in and work in the evening.  We have people always using the library for a variety of reasons and we have some great spots to enjoy conversations and get something done at the same time.

Strong Seniors: this group meets every Tuesday and Thursday, 1-2 pm.  Chair workouts are done with light hand weights.  In this cold season, come on in to get your body moving!

Senior Coffee and Cookies: every Friday, 10-12 pm.  This is a fantastic way to come together and enjoy conversations, play some games and find out about what is going on in our community.  What I love most about this group is the comradery that they have.  Some people have lived here for decades and others have moved here to be by family and grandkids.  It’s been great to see friendships develop and fellowship thrive.

The parking lot fundraiser is ongoing and the Library Board is currently working toward raising
$83,253 to pay off the extended lot and prepare the way for pavement. Your gift would help us provide
safe parking for those who attend our growing programs.
