Weekly Highlights for February 20, 2017
The Library is excited to be partnering with the Senior Center Board to bring a fantastic Community Dinner and special guest, Patsy O’Brien on Tuesday, March 7th at the Roberts Park Building. Patsy O’Brien is an Irish songwriter and musician. He has played with punk rock bands, country music bands, big bands, swing and jazz ensembles and Irish Folk music groups. He currently performs as a solo guitarist and singer. Cocktails will be served at 4:30, dinner at 5:30 pm and entertainment to follow. Dinner is $10 per person, please call 715-749-3755 by March 3rd for your reservation.
March is National Youth Art Month! We are excited to be having the wonderful talent of SCC students from kindergarten through 12 grade on display the entire month. Please stop in and enjoy browsing the various mediums that will be here. Every year I am more amazed at what our students are capable of. Be watching on Facebook as well because every day a piece of art or two is featured.
Story Time: Story times are Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:30-11:15AM. February 13 and 15th will be Valentine’s Day and February 20 and 22 will be Teeth and February 27 and March 1 is Dr. Seuss, March 6th and 8th will be Transportation.
A Novel Idea Book Club: Monday, February 27, 5:30 pm at Bobtown Brew House. This month the group will be discussing the book One in a Million Boy by Monica Wood.
S.T.E.M.-Silly Science: Thursday, March 2, 4:30-5:30 pm. This program is for grades 4-7th. Please RSVP to the library by calling 715-749-3849.
Tech Night: Thursday, March 9th, 5:30-7:45 pm. Sign up at the library for half hour times slots to answer your difficult questions or help with some of your new technology.
Tween Book Club: Saturday, March 11, 10-11 am. This month the group will be discussing Framed! A T.O.A.S.T. Mystery by James Point. “Get to know the only kid on the FBI Director’s speed dial and several international criminals’ most wanted lists all because of his Theory of All Small Things in this hilarious start to a brand-new middle grade mystery series.”
Intro to Knitting Class: Thursday, March 16 and 23, 4:30-6 pm. This is a two part class that will teach you skills to create your choice of a scarf, cowl or wash cloth. Participants should bring supplies for their specific project. A supply list is available at the circulation desk. Participants must be at least eight years old. Author Event: Tuesday, March 21, 6:30 pm. Jim Anderson will be presenting, Discover America. Jim has completed a marathon in all 50 states and the American Birkebeiner (American’s largest cross-country ski race) 40 times. He has an appreciation of American history and will be sharing his stories and conquests with us.
Senior Coffee and Cookies/Ice Cream: Every Friday at 10AM. Stop by for some conversation, games, or just a free cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or tea.
Strong Senior Chair Exercise: This program is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-2PM. Come on in and join the movement group! This program will follow a DVD designed to help develop strength and enhance ability to function in daily live, improving stability, balance, and mobility. Feel free to bring small hand weights for a tougher workout.
The parking lot fundraiser is ongoing and the Library Board is currently working toward raising $205,000 to pay off the extended lot and prepare the way for pavement. Your gift would help us provide safe parking for those who attend our growing programs.
